Course Description
This studio seminar introduces the human-centered design process - empathy, problem framing, ideation, prototyping, and testing - as a practical way to address complex challenges across various disciplines. Students from any major use qualitative research, rapid experimentation, and storytelling to develop solutions that are ethical, inclusive, and feasible. The course also introduces appropriate use of AI-assisted tools to support research synthesis, generate and compare concept directions, and accelerate prototyping and iteration, while emphasizing critical evaluation, responsible use, and student ownership of final decisions. Activities include field research, design sprints, low- and high-fidelity prototyping, and collaboration with a real campus or community partner. Open to all majors (business, health sciences, education, engineering, arts & design, computer science, social sciences). No prior design experience required.
